TOP PICK – Greenbox Smartphone Controlled Automated Irrigation Sprinkler System for Garden and Lawn

While this product has not yet been released, it’s still a TOP PICK of ours because of how cool it is. The Greenbox automated irrigation sprinkler system is how automatic sprinkler systems should work. Automatic should mean more than turning on and off automatically… it should mean watering only when your lawn or garden actually needs water. And this is exactly what the Greenbox does! No more simple fixed schedules with your irrigation system. The Greenbox is changing that by monitoring your local weather conditions and automatically adjusting them so your grass and plants get just the right amount of water – no more, no less. Greenbox saves you up to 50% in outdoor...

TOP PICK – MagnoGrip Magnetic Carpenter’s Tool Belt

Every handyman has one… their favorite tool belt. One of my favorites is this MagnoGrip magnetic carpenter’s tool belt. It has a total of 12 pockets for storing your tools, it’s made from a strong 1680D ballistic polyester, is a great price, but best of all it has magnetic nail pockets. Most handyman will eventually run into the same problem of dropping nails or screws constantly while their working. This gets old, really fast. Thanks to the magnetized nail pockets, these nail or screw spills are a thing of the past. And the wide mouth pockets stay open for easy reach to whatever you have in them. This magnetic tool belt has plenty of...

TOP PICK – Review – PORTER-CABLE 6-Inch Variable-Speed Polisher

What feels like a long, long time ago… (from 1989 to 1999), I owned a car wash/ detail shop. One of the most important tools that I used on a daily basis was a random orbit variable speed buffer. You’ll see people refer to them as polishers, buffers or DA’s (which stands for dual action). I personally prefer buffer. In my 10 years of owning the business I went through many different brands. They would have lasted longer if it was just me using them, but not all of my employees treated them like it was their own tool. Tools like this don’t like getting dropped from 4 feet without something breaking 🙂 After...

The JackClamp – the only bar clamp that does it all!

There are so many bar clamps on the market that someone who is considering one as a gift for their favorite handyman would be totally lost in the sea of clamps available.  I’m here to tell you that I’ve found the only one your handyman will ever need again! The JackClamp is unlike other bar clamps for many reasons. Most bar clamps work off a single bar. Slide together, clamp and lock. Many will fade in strength as the clamp is tightened or if the item being clamped puts the clamp sections far apart from each other. There’s nothing more annoying than trying to clamp an item that’s wide and the clamp keeps sliding...

The perfect gift for the home inspector – An aerial photography drone!

I know of the perfect new tool for the home inspector… an aerial photography drone! If you’re a home inspector or you have a friend or family member that’s an inspector, think of the possibilities and advantages an inspector would have with a quad-copter drone. The inspection report could contain aerial photos of a clients home, roof, chimney, and lot… none of which your competition could provide. No need for ladders, no need to jeopardize your safety by crawling on the roof, trying to inspect the shingles or chimney. Just launch this sucker and let it do the work! So cool. I’d like to have one just to play around with it as a...

Handyman Soaps – Simple Soaps Building Houses

Thanks to Twitter (and @HandymanSoaps for the tweet) I was able to find another great product I didn’t know about. Handyman Soaps makes 100% natural (Green on the Whole Foods Eco Scale) hand soap. They got there start in 2004 when Habitat for Humanity of Mt. Pleasant SC opened a ReStore to accept donations of gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies. The goal: sell these donated goods to the public and use the proceeds to build more Habitat homes and support other local missions.  The number of Habitat Homes is limited to the revenue they can generate so they wanted to find a way to create more awareness along with creating more revenue....

Outlaw Fasteners – Making it Easier to Screw

Outlaw Fasteners plans on changing the way the world screws! At least that’s what their Twitter profile says. And after looking through their site, I think they may be correct. Outlaw Fasteners has a new deck screw and drive system that looks much easier to use than typical deck screws. The patented UniGrip drive system uses a three level hexagon shape that holds the drive bit firmly in place. There are several advantages to this… it won’t strip, there’s only one bit needed, and best of all it holds the bit firmly in place to drive a screw only using one hand! That last part is key for most handymen who like to work...
